Samsung is on its way to maintain the lead in the mobile market in 2020

A new report expects that Samsung will strengthen its control over the global smartphone market next year, taking advantage of the sanctions imposed by the US government on its Chinese rival Huawei.

Market research firm Strategy Analytics said in its latest quarterly report, which was published on Sunday: Global smartphone shipments will decline by about 11 percent year-on-year to 1.26 billion units this year. The revised forecast was softened from previous expectations, for a decrease of 15.6 percent.

Strategy Analytics said: The new estimate reflects the higher-than-expected recovery rate in demand in the US, Europe and India, as well as stimulating the new market amid growing trends for working from home and learning at home.

The report stated that with the economic recovery and the permanent shift to 5G networks and foldable phones, market growth will exceed 9 percent next year, and the 2019 level of 1.41 billion units will be recovered in 2022.

Samsung is expected to maintain its market leadership during the current year by shipping 265 million units, or with its market share reaching 21 percent. Apple will take second place with 192 million units shipped, or with a market share of 15.3%, which will push Huawei to third place.

In terms of market share, Samsung and Apple will gain about 0.1 percent and 1.3 percent; In a row, however, Huawei will lose a significant portion of its market share of 4.3 percent next year, when it runs out of restricted stock of US-made chips.
